Concrete Flatwork In Wichita, KSConcrete flatwork is exactly what the name suggests – flat concrete that is formed on a level or somewhat level surface. But it involves some services that might surprise you, too. Concrete works well for flat surfaces because it is durable and pliable while still hardening. We can make a perfectly level surface out of uneven ground very easily with concrete.
Flatwork is the most traditional use of concrete, and it’s a concrete service that Clark’s Concrete excels at. Flat surfaces are not nearly as tricky as vertical ones – retaining walls, just to name one – but they do require a high level of skill and knowledge – two things we’ve gained after a few years in the concrete business! Clark’s Concrete can tell you anything you need to know about concrete flatwork in Wichita. All you have to do is ask! We’re often asked to explain our process for placing concrete flatwork. It’s much the same method as any other concrete flat work contractors will use. What sets us apart is our attention to detail! First, we frame the area to be filled with concrete with wood. This forms a temporary mold for the concrete. The purpose of the wooden frame is to make sure the concrete is level and poured at the same depth and that it stays level and allows for proper drainage. The wooden frame can be removed later by simply cutting it and pulling it away. Because of this simple molding procedure, concrete can be poured into virtually any shape. We then use a sub base to strengthen the concrete. This can either be aggregate rock or metal rebar that is placed inside the mold before the concrete is poured. A sub base will keep the concrete from cracking as easily. Finally, we will pour the concrete over the reinforcing material and smooth it out. We will apply any finishes, stains or decorative touches that you request. Then, there is a curing period of several days. This is the time when the concrete continues to harden and form crystals underneath its surface which will make it extremely strong. Concrete Flatwork Pricing If you are considering other options for your paving materials (asphalt, for example) be aware that concrete is probably going to be a more expensive choice. But at Clark’s Concrete, we encourage customers not to make a decision based solely on the lowest price. You have to look at the big picture. To make the right decision, you will need to figure in the durability and long life of concrete. You may have to replace or repair other paving materials in the near future, but not concrete. It typically lasts for many years before you need to give it a second thought. Also, consider how strong concrete is. Pavers and asphalt cannot stand up to storm damage, heavy traffic and tree root damage the way concrete can. If any of these factors will come into play for you, concrete may be your safer bet. Concrete flatwork cost can range from $3 or 4 per square foot for floor polishing or application of a floor coating, and it can cost $10 per square foot or more to have intricate stamping and coloring techniques applied. Services such as pool deck installation, concrete foundation installation and sidewalk or driveway installation fall somewhere in between these price ranges.
